M60 flooring embarked on the restoration of Salford lads club nearly 3 years ago, as an iconic, much loved building the club needed a full refurbishment, and with thanks to both Channel 4′s ‘Secret Millionaire’ and local fundraising, the clubs registered charity was able to fund works to fully restore all areas of the club to its former glory. For Information visit http://www.salfordladsclub.org.uk.
Including the legendary boxing room and concert hall we have completed over 1000 square meters of flooring works in the building, a fully functional gym has been added as well as the restoration of the 5 a side football pitch and an entirely new sports room has been added using reclaimed pitch pine plank.
Throughout the project, we were tasked with meeting strict deadlines, in order for other works to be completed on the project and for the club to remain in use during these works. A close working relationship with contractors on site and our non disruptive working methods allowed us to work to specific time constraints and still achieve the desired look and durability and minimal disruption.
During the project it was evident that the different areas would have very different uses, any areas used for sports would require specialist sports finishes. After sanding, areas of new timber and repaired sections were stained with sprit based wood dye in order to blend these areas with the 150 year old timber which had been left largely untreated for most of its life.
Both the main football area, and the concert hall required sports line marking, so prior to the final coat of lacquer the floors were cut back and prepared for line marking. To ensure maximum durability of the markings and the floor, the lines were then over coated with an additional coat of lacquer.
With the project now nearing completion, we have been asked to undertake the last segment of work on the building, which should then conclude the successful restoration of the Iconic Manchester landmark. We have received industry specific P.R. and very positive feedback from this project, and are proud of the work that we have achieved.
